Are you among the disappointed viewers of the GMA-7’s telecast of Miss World Philippines last Sunday?
Are you among those beauty pageant enthusiasts who sat through long and repeating commercial breaks?
You’re not alone!
Many televiewers complained to GMA-7 about the very delayed telecast of Miss World Philippines 2013. The show started at around 10pm after “Imbestigador” and would you believe it ended at 2am? That’s like four freaking hours!
Now before you raise your pitchforks and torches and rally to GMA-7, hear out their explanation:
The Kapuso network is blaming Bagyong Maring for the annoying technical glitches.
According to Arnold Vegafria, Vice President of Miss World Philippines and producer of the coronation, there was a problem with GMA-7’s satellite equipment. It was also the first time for the network to broadcast from Solaire Resort and Casino, the venue for the pageant last August 18, 2013.
Apparently, the satellite equipment would not function properly because of the bad weather in the area preventing the beaming of the program to the GMA studio.
As a an alternative, the network and the organizers of Miss World Philippines agreed to record the video of the pageant in each segment before each commercial break. During the break, the video would be rushed to GMA Network Studios in Quezon City.
Motorcycle riders saves the day
But then again, another problem arose. The network’s vehicles could hardly pass by any roads in EDSA due to heavy rains and flooding. Thus they have to hire motorcycle riders to carry the copies of videos from Solaire in Pasay to GMA Network in Quezon City.
Vegafria disclosed that sending a copy of the video through email would not have worked as the file was too large.
The series of unfortunate events made the network play its teasers and homeplugs for its teleseryes over and over again. The network had no choice as they await the arrival of the videos from Pasay City.
Replay set this week
But good news to all fans! According to Vegafria, GMA-7 has decided to replay the pageant broadcast for those who simply turned off their TVs out of annoyance last Sunday. However, there is no scheduled yet for this rerun.
Miss World Philippines 2013 aired last Sunday on GMA-7 where the crown was won by #20 Megan Young.
